Every starter is the same JSON a saved template is. GET /v1/starters lists them and GET /v1/starters/<slug> returns one with its layers and sample variables; both are free. Send that template to POST /v1/templates and it is yours to render with new variables, edit by name with modifications, or reshape in the editor. The starter templates guide walks through it in curl and Node.
